Meet Our Facilitators

  • My approach is feminist, trauma-informed, and person-centred, which means I focus on creating a space where each girl feels safe, valued, and celebrated for who she is.

Preteen years can bring big emotions, changing friendships, growing self-awareness, and questions about identity. For neurodivergent girls, these transitions can feel especially complex. In this group, we gently explore topics like self-esteem, body image, emotional regulation, friendship dynamics, and navigating school and social pressures — all while acknowledging the broader social messages and expectations that girls often face.

Using a strengths-based lens, I support girls in understanding their brains, building self-advocacy skills, and developing confidence in their unique abilities. Activities may include guided discussions, creative expression, skill-building games, and opportunities to practice social connection in a supportive environment.

My goal is to help each participant feel understood, empowered, and less alone — while building resilience, meaningful friendships, and pride in who they are.

  • As a Masters-level counselling intern, I strive to create a warm, inclusive, and non-judgmental environment where each girl feels safe to explore who she is becoming. The preteen years often bring shifting friendships, new social pressures, big emotions, and questions about identity. For neurodivergent girls, these experiences can feel especially layered. This group offers space to talk about those experiences openly, with curiosity, humour, and compassion.

My approach is strengths-based and collaborative. I believe every girl has unique abilities and insight, and sometimes having supportive peers and a caring facilitator can help those strengths shine. Drawing from Solution-Focused and trauma-informed practices, I incorporate creative activities, discussion, skill-building exercises, and collaborative problem-solving to help girls build confidence, emotional regulation skills, and self-advocacy tools.

With a background in disability support and trauma-informed care, I am committed to honouring each participant’s pace, comfort level, and individuality. My goal is to help girls feel empowered in their identities, more confident in their relationships, and proud of the unique ways their brains and personalities work — while building meaningful connections along the way.

Common techniques used in group therapy

  • Confidentiality and an Emotionally Safe Space: Group therapy provides a private, judgement-free environment where individuals can openly express their thoughts and feelings without fear.

Therapeutic Relationship and Guidance: Therapists offer compassionate listening, validation, and professional guidance to help clients navigate challenges, improve self-awareness, and find solutions right for them.

  • Many social misunderstandings happen because people interpret situations differently.

This reduces black-and-white thinking and helps girls respond more flexibly in friendships.

  • This helps participants understand the “why” behind social skills.

When girls understand the why something is happening socially, they are better able to respond confidently rather than feeling confused or rejected.

  • Role-play allows participants to:

    • practice entering a group conversation

    • respond to teasing or exclusion

    • set boundaries with peers

    • repair misunderstandings

Facilitators provide gentle coaching and feedback in the moment, helping girls adjust tone, timing, and wording in a safe environment.

  • Before social skills can be used, emotions must be manageable. This build resilience and reduces peer conflict escalation.

  • Many social challenges stem from rigid expectations (“She ignored me, so she must hate me”).

    We teach strategies to:

    • generate multiple interpretations

    • tolerate uncertainty

    • shift thinking when new information appears
