Parenting is probably one of the most challenging endeavours any one could undertake in their life. Whether as a couple or a single parent the development of a child(ren) in the modern and fast passed world brings new and complex challenges each day. CSI’s Groups offers opportunity for parents to enhance their skills in whether you are looking for first time parenting information to seeking specialized our team of clinicians have several years of expertise of working with families in the most extreme situations.

New Kid on the Block


This group is designed for first time parents seeking information and skills on parenting young children from toddlers to pre-teens. The group focuses on understanding the developmental needs of children, how children learn, how to create a safe learning environment. Age appropriate discipline skills is also a vital part of parenting that aims to ensure the safety, and dignity of all family members when children behaviour is unwelcome. Finally the group examine how to develop a healthy emotional atmosphere in the home and invest into a child’ self esteem so that they can meet the demands of school, playfields and adolescences.


Child Management


Sometimes it seems children behaviour becomes out of control. Regardless of the reason, the need for special support and skill development is necessary to regain the legitimate parental authority. A skilled clinician assists parents to understand factors that contribute to difficult or unmanageable situations. The group work will expose participants to new skills and enhancement of working skills to develop sustainable strategies to help minimize and in some cases eliminate difficult behaviour.


Parenting For Special Needs


Parenting a child with a learning or mood disorder is especially difficult. CSI offers special groups with focuses on skills for parenting a child with specific issues such as Fetal Alcohol syndrome/Effect, Attention Deficit or other organic Learning Disorders. The group is designed as not only a technical learning forum but also a place to develop long-term support and networking with other parents. This helps parents after group to support each other and continue using solution-focused techniques to meet new issues that arise.


Parent-Teen Issues

Parenting is often an experience and world of its own. Perhaps one of the more important skills that a parent can have to minimize if not evade conflicts with teens is communication. However, communication is more that “just speaking your mind,” or “laying the law down.”


This group helps parents and youth make develop necessary skills so that they can make real make the necessary adjustments to help each participant understand each others needs, communicate their own and learn how to hear and be heard even when there is disagreement.


Parenting through Mental with Mental Health Issues


This is a specialty and the most unique group available. This group is expressly for parents (or their partner) who lives with the effects of a mental health issues while trying to parent at the same time. The effects of mental health have far reaching effects on the ability to parent. This group draws on each others strength and helps parents learn how to maximize their coping strategies and seek solutions form their past success to maintain their sanity in all weather.
